Jesse Currier - Looking On The Bright Side

acrylic on canvas - 30'' x 30''

My paintings are a deep expression of my feelings, I never plan a painting, my colors and design come as I place them on my canvas. This creates a painting which comes from within myself. I am inspired everyday from things I see in this beautiful world we live in. Painting is such a joy to my heart and soul it is my true passion. Life is colorful and glorious, always take the time to see its beauty.

FIRST PLACE

Linda McCord - Around the Horn

acrylic - 20″ x 22″

Composition is the most important element when creating my art. I love light and shadow and the way the light forms to make various shapes. It is these shapes I focus on in my work. Dynamic light and shadow treatments are prominent in my paintings. The play of lights and darks creates abstract designs even in my realistic work. Emphasizing lighting and value change is the hallmark of my art.

Garret Demarest - Honey-Honey

digital photography - 22'' x 30''

These photographic art images were developed by Garret Demarest of Palm Springs, CA. Garret's work has evolved over time. His initial interest was in capturing images of objects but soon turned to people, animals, plants, and flowers as he grew in his studies in psychology and human development that included emotional reactions to color and color psychology. His early focus was on “spontaneous portraiture” capturing personalities of people. He was mentored by New York industrial designer, Robert G. Newbauer who encouraged him to capture his “decisive moment” in his originality and storytelling. Garret’s later career as an organizational development consultant, took him around the world providing the opportunity to photograph people and places that captured something unique and spontaneous. Now retired, he spends his free time immersed in his hobby of photographic art where he manipulates original photographs into abstract images resembling paintings of the “Color Field School” brought to life by Mark Rothko and other abstract impression artists in the Mid-20th Century, thus creatively blurring the lines between photography and painting. The specific colors from the original photograph are used to provide the palette for his abstract work. In this series, he has taken original photos of a variety of different objects – flowers, water scenes, sunrises, sunsets, and re-envisioned them through his abstract manipulation. His focus for the series is on the color yellow. This helped him select images that move through the visual and emotional excitement of cheerfulness, hope, happiness and just plain fun. It inspires creativity and inquisitiveness complimenting abstract impressionism and color-field art.

Cher Pruys - Precious Cargo

acrylic - 9'' x 12''

Cher Pruys, ASAA SCA, IGOR, AAPL, CSAA, AMS, LMS, OSA, MAA, CFA, NOAPS, PSOA, AWA., AAOA. "To take my inner visions with my hands and create a work of art for you the viewer .... That is the ultimate in self expression." I am very drawn to shiny surfaces as well as transparent objects, especially when the lighting brings them to life. Water is a subject that encompasses both movement, translucency that I find enticing. I look for beauty in everyday objects that most people take for granted or just don’t truly see them as they are. The seemingly boring and mundane subjects can truly be like magnets if portrayed in the right light. Shiny metal is one of those materials that can host endless visions….the light hits it and the reflections are captured on the smooth, sleek surface…an artists dream!
