Grey Cube Gallery proudly presents the first Green online art show for the month of May 2023. The show encompassed a range of artistic styles and mediums (oil on canvas, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, alcohol ink, collage, photography, digital art). Each submission has been judged based on the following elements of artistic expression: orginality and quality of art, overall design, creativity, interpretation of the theme, demonstration of artistic ability and usage of medium. Out of all entries, 109 artworks were shortlisted for inclusion in the show. The competition attracted entries from many countries across the world: USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, China, Ukraine, Norway, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, Portugal, Israel, Switzerland and Germany. After more than 25 years of freelance work in drawing, graphic design, copy art, painting on furniture, specialized painting, decoration and muralism, i definitely turned to a professional career as an artist-painter on canvas in 2014. My relationship with water is evident when looking at many of my works. I paint streams, rivers and the sea, currents, cascades and falls. Realistic figurative painter, at the limit of hyperrealism, i offers to the gaze the transparency, the calm and the fury of the waters. My paintings invite you to abandon, to daydream, to meditation. Over the past two years I have found myself returning again and again to images of a parkway along the Hudson River in New York. The first paintings in this series were landscapes depicting the parkway within the surrounding park. These two images show the evolution of the series, narrowing in on small areas of detail. Painting in oils, I focus primarily on color and light, with the goal of revealing the beauty in often-overlooked details. In this series one of the happy surprises was to discover how lovely the turquoise paint of the structure looks in different lights – from a warm yellow green to cold but brilliant green-blue, modified by rust and shadows that range from purple to brown.

I am a landscape painter living in and maintaining my studio in southern California. My current oil paintings of colorful, engaging but otherwise overlooked and isolated flora are magnified to reveal their importance. Subject matter is discovered from remote to obvious locations across the country. Coming from an orientation in abstraction, my choice to work in a close focus realistic style remains ever mindful of the abstraction that exists in nature.

My art is an expression of an inner need to escape and find a place where I can go on a creative journey whether it is to become a different person, to see beauty in my surroundings. or to travel to a different place. Creating art is fun and sometimes frustrating but never, never boring. I use mathematical concepts in my work rather than emotion. I love light and shadow and the way the light forms to make various shapes. It is these shapes that I focus on in my work. I repeat the positive shapes in the negative areas while trying to create a sense of rhythm. I love color, but value is more important to me. Contrast of any type excites me. With all my work that involves color, I prefer to use transparent layers rather than direct application. I decided on composition and color by doing a series of thumbnail sketches and paintings. I plan my work carefully, and although the major decisions are made before I start any piece of work, I leave room for flexibility while the work is in progress.
