BEST OF SHOW

Chris Klein - Exits and Entrances

acrylic - 60'' x 72''

My costume series crystalised through my work in theatre. As Head of Scenic Art at the Stratford Festival in Canada, I worked next door to their costume warehouse. Thousands of costumes from all periods. I took many photographs and soon realised that I needed to paint some of them. I wasn’t expecting they would become so successful, and I haven’t stopped painting costumes! I’ve painted from the biggest theatre shows in the world, The Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King. I’ve also expanded to painting historic Royal costumes from the UK, as well as from the world of fashion, film and pop culture. The more I paint, the more doors seem to open for me to keep painting.

FIRST PLACE

Linda McCord - Floor Play

acrylic on paper - 21'' x 28''

Glass, metal, mirrors, and surface that reflects is all about shapes, sparkle, reflections, and transparency. It’s exciting to layer one transparent color on top of another creating a third color and an interesting new shape. I have incorporated the layering process that I used as a print-maker into my acrylics and watercolors. I love color, but value is more important to me.

SECOND PLACE

Marnier Trepanier - Baby Love

acrylic - 60'' x 36''

Marnier is looking for the perfect balance to create a sense of harmony in his work. Each stroke is placed at his awaited inspiration. Even in a static scene, the subject is put in motion. His distinctive brushstroke, which explores faces and wildlife with a dexterity that is as methodical as it is feisty, drawn the attention of multiple galleries. After graduating in graphic design, this discipline became his main channel of expression for close to twenty years – though he also liked to flirt with brushes on occasion. His artistic spark drew him away from graphic design and pushed him to devote entirely to painting. Over the past years, this medium gradually occupied more and more space, until it became the driving force of his artistic emergence and in which he developed his very own style. Sophia loren is like a breath of fresh air on screen. The colors where very important to me in this painting to express this feeling. The vertical stripes represent the raise of this new young actress. In this piece i wanted to express the many sides of Winston Churchill. Trow his eyes my intention was to show to sides of his personality. His calm and softness but be careful im also a badass. Even if he ad a good life a lot of descisions he made implicated casualties. The red around him signifies that.

THIRD PLACE

Milene Evers - SC448

acrylic on canvas - 40 x 40 cm

Milène Evers uses the dot technique to create abstract paintings. The dots give depth and an organic character to her work. It is colorful as life and the world are. Creating is a meditative proces that gives positive energy which she expresses in her paintings. Key concepts are balance, structure, letting go and drifting away. Milene gets inspiration from the things she sees around her, especially while traveling. She has exhibited at home and abroad.
