Cher Pruys - Besties

acrylic - 12'' x 10''

Cher Pruys, ASAA SCA, IGOR, AAPL, CSAA, AMS, LMS, OSA, MAA, CFA, NOAPS, PSOA, AWA., AAOA. "To take my inner visions with my hands and create a work of art for you the viewer .... That is the ultimate in self expression." I am very drawn to shiny surfaces as well as transparent objects, especially when the lighting brings them to life. Water is a subject that encompasses both movement, translucency that I find enticing. I look for beauty in everyday objects that most people take for granted or just don’t truly see them as they are. The seemingly boring and mundane subjects can truly be like magnets if portrayed in the right light. Shiny metal is one of those materials that can host endless visions….the light hits it and the reflections are captured on the smooth, sleek surface…an artists dream!

FIRST PLACE

Barry Smylie - Wayne

acrylic - 18″ x 24″

I have a wide range of subjects and a large vocabulary of techniques which I apply to the objects of my media as I feel best suits the subject. I don't think about my work in words. It comes to me viscerally and visually. Therefore, I have difficulty with "Artist's Statements" because my pictures portray in the global language of visual imagery.

SECOND PLACE

Linda McCord - Someone's Dad

acrylic on canvas - 15'' x 15''

I love light and shadow and the way the light forms to make various shapes. It is these shapes that I focus on in my work. I repeat the positive shapes in the negative areas while trying to create a sense of rhythm. I love color, but value is more important to me. Contrast of any type excites me. With all my work that involves color, I prefer to use transparent layers rather than direct application. I decided on composition and color by doing a series of thumbnail sketches and paintings. I plan my work carefully, and although the major decisions are made before I start any piece of work, I leave room for flexibility while the work is in progress. Each work in progress is magical and exciting and sometimes even frustrating, but never boring, and always addictive. I love being an artist. I pose my models as if they are for still life paintings. In this way I am totally focused on composition. By doing interiors I have control over the light source, and it can come from various sources which makes it more challenging and exciting to paint. I love light and shadow and the way the light forms to make various shapes. It is these shapes that I focus on in my work. I use mathematical concepts rather than emotion in my work. Each work in progress is magical and exciting and sometimes even frustrating, but never boring, and always addictive. I love being an artist.

BETTER COLORFUL CREATIVE Many years of experience – talent and passion If you stop improving, you stop being good. As an artist, I particularly orientate myself towards this leitmotif, be it in realistic oil painting, drawing, pastel painting or abstract acrylic painting. Already my childhood dream Already in my early childhood I discovered the fascination of painting. No, not just a hobby. To this day I have succumbed to my creative vein of painting
